Typically the driest part of UpCountry, Kula real estate is known for its many micro-climates, ranches, agricultural traditions and as the Maui Alps with cooler temperatures and expansive bi-coastal views. Nestled on the western slopes of Mount Haleakala at an elevation between 1,100 to 1,600 feet is the UpCountry town of Pukalani. Not as remote as Kula, this UpCountry community has local shopping centers, grocery stores, restaurants, coffee shops and its own Maui golf course at the Pukalani Country Club. Scattered around this golf course of 150 acres are several developments with Maui condos for sale. Makawao Real Estate

Remiscent of a rustic western town, Makawao is situated between Pukalani and Haiku at an elevation of 1,600 feet in UpCountry Maui. Known for its mild climate, open rolling pastures, quaint Maui UpCountry homes, Hawaiian "paniolo" cowboys and cattle ranches, this UpCountry community is unique to Maui as its world class resorts.

Two small neighboring communities of Makawao are Olinda and the planation town of Haliimaile. The community of Olinda rests on the slopes of Haleakala in the eucalyptus forests and rolling pastures just above Makawao. Most properties here consist of large parcels with horses, cattle and reed avocado orchards. Haliimaile is a small community located below Makawao with remants of the pineapple plantation industry. One of Maui's favorite restaurants, the Haliimaile General Store, features an eclectic menu ranging from American to Asian Fusion.

As the center for the UpCountry Maui art scene, Makawao is a diverse community of galleries for local artists, boutiques, natural food store, restaurants, private schools, acupuncture clinics, Chinese medicine practioners and Maui bed-n-breakfasts. Home to the Makawao Rodeo held every July 4th weekend, this is Hawaii's largest panoilo competition which includes a parade, activities, foods, crafts and country-western dancing.
